Healing Rosacea

Rosacea is a very common skin condition that is often misunderstood and confused with acne. If you have rosacea you may have tried various treatments. New technology has brought breakthroughs in the past few years however, some of which are truly powerful and giving great results. At Evo Spa, we use a powerful blend of natural skin care products and cutting edge technology to successfully treat rosacea.

How to Tell if You Have Rosacea

Rosacea ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosacea ), is more common in the UK and affects more people globally of northwestern European descent than in other areas of the world. It is hereditary. Rosacea is more commonly found in people with light colored hair and fair skin, and is not found in people with dark skin.

Although rosacea affects all ages, it tends to present more often in women than in men, commonly between the ages of 30-50. It is characterized by red facial skin, acne type eruptions, and sometimes visible capillaries and inflammation. Eyes may also be affected, with irritation being the most common eye symptom. Skin with rosacea is commonly extra sensitive as well.

Although it is a lifelong condition to manage it is possible to heal and improve skin with rosacea. Many people who have rosacea have a mild version and never treat it beyond using make-up. They may notice that their skin gets very red under certain conditions, such as heat, while exercising, from spicy foods, but is not bright red all the time. It can be confused with adult acne.

The difference between rosacea and adult acne is that rosacea is usually only found on the face in central areas, and that blackheads are usually not abundant. While acne is driven by hormones, rosacea is triggered by heat, emotions, foods, and other factors. Both skin types may have pimples, but rosacea alone can cause the skin to thicken and become bumpy in larger facial areas. There are solutions to rosacea! We are proud to offer some of the best options at Evo Spa.

How to Heal Rosacea Diet

The best treatment regimen for healing rosacea begins with a healthy diet. Beauty truly comes from within, so nourish your skin each time you eat by including lots of fresh, organic, fruits and vegetables. Be sure to drink plenty of water and avoid excess alcohol, spicy foods, caffeine, and foods that contain high levels of histamines. Histamines are known to trigger rosacea and are found in fermented foods, and especially foods that contain tyramine. Here’s a list of foods that contain histamines. http://www.michiganallergy.com/ food_and_histamine.shtml

Cultivate Inner Peace

When you cultivate inner peace you nurture your body and skin alongside your mind. Incredible beings that we are, scientific studies have shown that your immune system and physical well being is boosted by meditation. A positive attitude is also a great way to cultivate beauty and reduce stress. Rosacea can be triggered by emotions. Each time you nurture yourself and reduce stress, you are giving yourself the gift of health and beauty. Beauty begins within.

Gentle Skin Care Products

Think of your skin care products as food for your skin. Since skin with rosacea tends to be extra sensitive you may get better results by avoiding strong acids and exfoliators. Go for gentle skin care products instead.

Gentle, organic and all natural ingredients in skin care products will help to reduce irritation and can decrease reactions to chemicals that too often are found in inferior skin care products. Remember, your immune system functions on a cellular level, and the magnificent organ we call skin absorbs much from the outside! Give your skin the best nourishment possible in the skin care products you use in order to see your rosacea diminish.

Skin Serums

Next, add specialty serums. For example, CPR serum by CosMedix blends Blue Agave, Arnica, Oligopeptide, Tamanu Oil, Totarol, Green Tea and Vitamin E into a treatment that visibly reduces redness immediately, and with time offers cumulative results. Your Evo Spa esthetician can tell you which products will bring you the best results. Having regular facials can help treat rosacea, and can also be a great way to test different products.

Light Therapy

Pulsed Light Therapy and, more recently, LED Colored Light Therapy treatments help reduce rosacea. Both have been used for many years successfully in the treatment of acne. Given the similarity of symptoms between acne and rosacea, perhaps it’s not surprising that light therapy works to help both.

Antibiotics are often prescribed as standard treatment for both acne and rosacea, but drugs have unwanted side effects. Since resistance to antibiotics is a global concern, light therapy offers viable alternative treatment options without drugs.(https://www.aad.org/media/news-releases/colored-light-sources-lighting-the-way-for-new-office-and-home-based-skin- devices)

We offer both Pulsed Light Therapy and LED Light Therapy at Evo Spa. Since both types of Light Therapy treatments heal gently from within, you’ll look healthy and glowing after a treatment, unlike peels and harsh lasers. There is no down time, and no one will be able to tell you’ve just been treated. But prepare yourself, because people will notice that your skin looks much better as you get regular treatments over time!
